WCS 3.jpg

'Needs assessment' interviews were held with a series of prospective employers of Master's degree graduates. These employers mostly worked in the NGO wildlife conservation sector and included WCS, FFI, Smithsonian, MBNS and Friends of Wildlife.

They strongly recommended that the following skills should be included in teaching because they are currently
of insufficient standard or absent from students graduating in the environmental/biological sciences in Master's degree in Myanmar:

  • Concept of Environmental Science and Natural Resources

  • Proposal and Scientific paper writing

  • Research methodologies and design

  • Wildlife ecology and Evolution

  • Behavioural ecology

  • Pollution management

  • Statistics by using R (including PRESENCE/DISTANCE, MARK or other population estimators)

  • GIS (ArcGIS/Q) and basic for Remote Sensing

  • Paper reading, Seminar practice

  • English language (for all)

  • Project management

  • Project cycle management.
